Built from 1996 to 1999, with most still in service, this later variation of the SD70-series introduced the Isolated or Whisper Cab, marked by the "I" in the designation and intended to reduce noise and vibration, easily recognized by the visible seam along the nose. As an undecorated model, item 910-11019 provides a clean starting point for your own road scheme while retaining the prototype's key details.

This fully assembled, ready-to-run Standard DC locomotive has a minimum radius of 18" with 22" or larger recommended. It features a correct North American Safety Cab, flush radiators per early production units, correct HTCR-1a or HTCR-1b trucks per prototype, a brass Nathan K5 air horn, treadplate walkways, a cab interior, a 5000-gallon fuel tank, and a standard bell on the conductor's side. LED lighting includes high or low headlight, improved working front ditch lights, and constant and directional lights, with a 21-pin DCC plug. The Walthers Proto style drive uses a 5-pole skew-wound motor, 14:1 gear ratio, helical-cut gears, all-wheel drive and pickup, dual machined brass flywheels, and a heavy die-cast metal chassis.
